Brazil ANATEL Certification - New Requirements for set-top Box (Draft for Comments)

Recently, Brazil ANATEL has opened Public Consultation on No. 61 “Requirements for assessing the conformity of Smart TV Box type equipment."The consultation will close on November 20, 2022, and the mandatory implementation date will be announced separately.

The purpose of the new conformity certification requirements is to ensure that Brazilian copyright laws are effectively implemented in the import of an increasing number of set-top box products.

According to the new certification requirements, ANATEL designated certification bodies and laboratories must inspect and test the software installed in the set-top box to ensure that the products are free from piracy and infringement of legitimate telecommunications services.

Enable the equipment for use and list all software or applications installed by default on the equipment. Also register the version of the operating system and its kernel.

5.2.2.2.Check if there is any software or application installed by default on the product that is on the list of irregular equipment or software published or endorsed by Anatel.

5.2.2.3.Check if there is any software, application, functionality or instructions that indicate possible copyright infringement of audiovisual content.

5.2.2.4.Check that the equipment operating system is provided with root mode enabled (mode with greater privileges for use and configuration of the operating system).

5.2.2.5.Check that the installation of third-party software or applications not available in the equipment app store is enabled by default.
