Kuwait revised type approval regulations

The Kuwait communications and information technology authority (CITRA) announced new regulations on September 13, 2021 to amend the content of type approval of telecommunications equipment. According to the new regulations, telecommunications equipment can only be imported into the Kuwaiti market if it meets the following conditions: 

1. It complies with the relevant regulations and technical standards approved by CITRA and has type approval certificate (if applicable) 

2. It meets the following technical requirements:

It will not emit electromagnetic energy that will cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) in other adjacent equipment

The program interface of the device is not easy to access

In addition, external equipment must meet the following additional requirements:

- Mobile terminal equipment must have IMEI number

-The equipment must have emergency services enabled

It is worth noting that if your equipment meets the requirements of EU regulations and has relevant compliance documents and CE mark, it can generally meet the requirements of Kuwait's type approval procedure. However, in any case, the CITRA authority has the right to:

- Use or update the certification standards or specifications it deems necessary for the approval of the telecommunication equipment
