Saudi Arabia enforce RoHS from January 5, 2022

The Saudi organization for standards, metrology and quality (SASO) recently introduced a new technical regulation on the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipment.  


From January 5, 2022, the application for SASO saber and SASO IECEE approval certificate requires the RoHS report of products or the risk assessment report of parts. This regulation applies to the following categories of electrical and electronic equipment and spare parts put into Saudi Arabian market:


Large and small household appliances  

Information and communication technology equipment  

Lighting  

Electrical and electronic tools and equipment  

Games, entertainment and sports equipment  

Monitoring and control tools


In order to comply with the regulation, imported equipment shall comply with relevant KSA or Gulf standards. In the absence of such standards, international standards shall be implemented instead. In addition, the manufacturer shall provide the equipment with technical documents and evidence that his company has an qualified quality management system.
