India may force electronic intelligent products to use Type-C as charging port

It is reported that India may be promoting a government proposal, which will force all smartphones, tablets and laptops to implement the standard charging interface USB Type-C, following the steps of the EU, which has recently passed a similar bill. India hopes to reduce e-waste through a unified charging port.


Not long ago, in a government press release, Rohit Kumar Singh, Ministry Of Consumer Affairs, Food And Public Distribution, said that various government departments and private institutions had held a meeting. Stakeholders reached a broad consensus on using USB Type-C as the charging port of smart phones, tablets, laptops and other electronic devices. In addition, the press release also mentioned that feature phones can use different charging ports.
